Duckson Garage: Honda Prelude [ARCHIVED]

There’s so much to love about this car.

For example, Honda pioneered four wheel steering (4WS) on the humble Prelude, setting off an 80’s trend that almost eclipsed parachute pants. Although 4WS faded away from the automotive zeitgeist, it has recently made a comeback (unlike parachute pants) – featuring on the likes of Porsche, Audi and even Ferrari.

Not only that, but the sleek wedge nose of the Prelude hides two glorious pop-up headlights. To me it looks like a baby NSX (mid-engined supercar built by Honda), which you would need a mortgage to purchase.

Speaking of money, this clean example in Laguna Gold is only $2,000. Yes, it has done quite a few kilometres… but still.

A few weeks ago I was driving and happened to see this exact car – rocking it’s popped up headlights at midday (the automotive equivalent of ‘sunglasses at night’). I wanted it. Fast forward to its current for-sale status – at such an affordable price – and the temptation is real.

This is why it is The Weekly Car this time ’round.
